The 2011 Vauxhall Sports Tourer is a brilliantly designed vehicle with great emphasis on driver satisfaction and passenger comfort. This is a sports estate car that is quite a sight, capable of taking on long trips, without cramping the occupants, or inducing claustrophobia. It is offered with different engines, the first is a humble 128 hp engine fitted on the ES 2.0 CDTi model, which is a 6-speed manual diesel powered, 4 cylinder engines. There are about 8 other engine configurations with different power outputs, but the most impressive is the 2.8i V6 turbo engine that comes with the all-wheel drive 6-speed engine that can give out 320 hp at 5250 rpm, that runs on petrol. The fuel efficiency for this is engine configuration surprisingly is 17 mpg urban and 35 mpg extra-urban. The most conservative engine configurations have fuel economy in the range of 47 mpg combined, which is an impressive figure.
The exterior is quite wide and is highlighted by extensions in the wheel arch. It features fog lights, grille and light clusters that blend fluidly and create an impressive look. The interior is well designed and echoes the fluid lines and curves of the exterior. Dashboard and other surfaces feature a ‘soft touch’ material that gives the cabin a luxurious feel. The front panel flows seamlessly into molded doors giving you a sense of space. The steep windshield helps the front passenger to be incorporated into the dashboard without reducing space in the glove box. The entire interior is impeccably designed with chrome accents and bold colors that are high quality with special ergonomic seats that are made from Top Tec fibers that prevent dirt and grime from being absorbed into the fabric. The Insignia features an integrated infotainment system that is easy to use and a joy to look at. It gives mundane tasks, like navigation guidance or accessing your iPod, a new life and includes a 7” color display with 3D bird’s eye view, 2 Gb internal flash memory, navigational access to 30 countries in Europe, USB connectivity for iPods and Bluetooth connectivity that can be put into sleep mode to prevent over usage of the cars battery. The 2011 Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer can also be fitted with a premium Infinity Audio System that has seven speakers and can be finely tuned. The cabin is also fitted with a variety of well placed, hidden compartments and pockets that are easy to access for passengers and driver.
Though many other estate models have a less than appealing profile, the Insignia is a refreshing change from the others with a striking image. The Insignia has bold, sporty lines that are emphasized by the tailgate and rear hatch. It is extremely easy to load and unload as the rear seats fold without having to dismantle the headrests. Without the seats folded, the boot can hold up to 540 liters cargo and not even bat an eyelid. The tailgate is hydraulic and is easy to use.
The 2011 Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer is equipped with fantastically designed safety features like to dual powered front airbags, side airbags and rear curtain airbags. With the use of highly tensile steel and strategically equipped crash boxes, the Insignia is capable of absorbing impact effectively. The electrically operated parking brake improves parking security.
Overall, it makes for a sound vehicle though it lends to lumber around curves. The 2011 Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer makes a great family car and is definitely a must watch.
