The brand new Peugeot 508 is a modern and original hybrid SUV that has an impressive appearance and aesthetic appeal. In an attempt to reinforce its technological prowess, Peugeot has designed the 508 RXH to be unique and refined.
The 2011 508 RXH is a radical departure from traditional run off the mill Peugeot cars. This model come with a turbo-diesel and electric motor combo, the turbo-diesel engine is a 2000 cc HDi, that together with the electric motor will generate 200 hp of power and about 332 lb-ft. of torque. This power generated gets to the wheels via a variable speed automatic transmission system, in all wheel drive configuration. The fuel efficiency is one of the most impressive features of the car, with the manufacturer rating it at 67 mpg combined, and when it comes to carbon dioxide emission, this is at about 109 g/km. The RHX has a complete hybrid mode that is purely electric and therefore has zero emissions.
The interior is impeccably designed with beautiful accents that make the attention to detail extremely obvious. The cabin is very spacious and offers ample head and legroom. It features soft touch materials that make for a very pleasant experience. Peugeot uses premium quality materials that are easy to maintain, extremely durable and visually pleasing. The RXH has plenty of nooks and crannies for storage and well-designed seats to ensure passenger comfort. With a variety of lush interior upholstery to choose from, one can personalize it to your own specifications. The exterior features wheel arch extensions in a gunmetal grey finish and the roof rails are chrome. The newly designed bumper has three lines of LED lights on each end that have a fantastic effect.
The 508 RXH is equipped with an array of technology such as the keyless entry and start, a head up display that displays your speed on the windshield in the drivers line of sight, a glass roof, electrically operated front seats, 18” alloy wheels, tinted side windows that are acoustically insulated and state of the art audio and navigational systems. It also includes dual zone climate control and parking sensors at the front and rear to help make parking a breeze. It is also fitted with an ‘available space’ sensor that lets you know if the parking space you have chosen is big enough. It is also fitted with a tire pressure monitoring system and alerts you if the pressure is too high or too low. Thanks to a front suspension that is a double wishbone arrangement, the steering is far more responsive and direct. The body tends to be quite rigid and makes for a quiet and stable ride even on less than perfect roads.
It has an impressive five stars where crash worthiness is concerned and is equipped with standard airbags and a host of safety features that make it a competent vehicle where family is concerned. The drivability and handling of the RXH is quite impressive. It’s easy on bends and if you stick to smooth roads, you won’t be disappointed as one can really experience the power. Though many complain that the steering wheel could be more responsive, the overall handling is quite smooth and free of complication.
